Enlightenment Within Yourself !!

Women all over the world have struggled their way and made considerable contributions for the betterment of the society. It’s a myth that none of their steady and strong progress in historic, cultural, social and economic areas has gone noticed. Their different roles in greatest epics and strong nature of sacrifices have set an apt example since Vedic period. Women have been respected and have been elected to rule an entire kingdom with great valour and dignity.

So, do we understand women are still revered, respected and given equal rights to voice their opinion? Not many believe this to be true, though there are many laws and women rights that have come into existence. Though much progress is being made by developing countries with empowering women as the main criteria , still most of women face many issues at home, at workplace, during travel ,in voicing their opinion and mostly shockingly even before there are born. Many cases of selective abortion, female infanticide and abandoned female baby have been a sensitive issue where in both sides a women at loss.

Women have been playing diverse roles to run the house, bearing and upbringing children, as a mother, wife, sister, daughter, teacher and most importantly a guide in building up a strong family of social and cultural values thereby a powerful society as a whole.

As many decades and generations have passed can we now say women now have full protection to walk freely, full freedom to choose their way of life? Still many social evils and obstacles exist in this society and yet many women striving for equal rights as men.
What does Women Empowerment mean? Empowerment means giving the woman the right to live her life, right to choice, right to decide her future and respect and support her in achieving greater success and fulfill her aims and aspirations.

Where does Empowerment start from? Many social causes, development programmes on women welfare, self employment are some of the areas gathering momentum. Education among them is the ideal key to empower women right from the start. Educating men too plays a pivot role in empowering women.

There is a mother who fights with her husband and in-laws and aims at educating her daughter by all means so that she can lead a better life than hers as she know proper education gives the power to understand what’s right and wrong hence voice her opinion.
There are little girls who have been abandoned at birth (Parents uneducated) and still beg on the streets. There are daughters who still fight for their right to choose their choice of specialization of study. Many young women fight for pursuing a career and support her parents rather than getting married at an early age of eighteen.

Many forced marriages still are in place where daughter are considered a burden and parents get rid of them along with satisfying the demands of dowry too. Few situations exist where men are supportive of women working part time and bringing up their children too.

Though we have advanced ,women are still being held by parents’ decisions, opposition from husband and in-laws, force and pressure from the society, setbacks at workplace and many more. So, women educate yourself, educate others around you, you always are courageous, be free to voice your opinion and finally enlighten the light within you. You can enlighten the whole world.

Beti Padao !! Beti Bachao !!

  1. Good one Shalini. I agree with your point. Women in India had a grand history... followed by an oppressive one. Now, the empowerment is still incomplete. Hope it comes through quickly.

Writing is good as always :) Keep it up!
